She began preparing herself at Cape Breton University where she earned a bachelor of business administration in 2016. “I’ve always had this dream, a real fierce desire, to become an entrepreneur,” she said. But while she has the support of her family, she wants to make it on her own and not on the coattails of anybody else. His drive and determination as a business owner, paired with his love for Cape Breton and the local community, has always been something I have admired.” Her own pathĬolbourne may respect her father’s business acumen, but make no mistake – she’s her own person. “My father was an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember,” she said. He also owns several local car dealerships and has interests in other businesses including The Lakes Golf Club at Ben Eoin and the Cape Breton Eagles franchise of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League. Without apologies, she said she picked it up from within her own family.įor the record, her father is well-known Cape Breton businessman Rodney Colbourne, the president and co-founder of Offshore Technical Services Ltd. When I was elementary school age I used to say I wanted to be a businesswoman.”Ĭolbourne doesn’t hesitate when asked how she came to be interested in business. “When I was a child and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer never aligned with what the other kids who all wanted to be astronauts, teachers, firefighters, doctors, lawyers or nurses. “I have loved business for as long as I can remember,” said the 28-year-old fledgling entrepreneur. Such is the case with Kaitlin Colbourne who will become Sydney’s latest new business owner when she opens a Charlotte Street clothing boutique later this summer.
